Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a flexible approach to help you change thoughts and feelings. For example, negative and anxious thought patterns develop over time, which turn into a belief system and failure to change. By identifying negative or distorted perceptions, CBT can evaluate and change the way you think and feel and behave enabling you to adapt new cognitive skills. CBT encourages improved coping skills and strategies and thus maintain a significantly reduced relapse rate.
For example, a person with an anxiety state may learn to use avoidance tactics for specific places or things. With CBT they gradually learn new ways to overcome this and realise these were not threatening situations after all. By learning a new alternative viewpoint, they also realise they have more control, and in the long term, increases their self-esteem and confidence levels.
We all have the ability to change the way we deal with emotional issues, by focusing on the way our thoughts, images, beliefs and attitudes are used.
During CBT, a plan of action is provided, including assignments, as you are encouraged to participate in your own therapy. Feedback at the beginning of each session is vital, such as what has worked and what has not. The emphasis is on collaborating together to experiment and explore different ways for you to overcome your difficulties.
As the defined maladaptive cognition's are explored and identified a flexible approach can be incorporated during the session using hypnosis, which leads to a quicker recovery rate.
